Asphalt Quality Control Technician

The Asphalt Quality Control Technician is responsible for monitoring asphalt paving processes, testing materials, and ensuring compliance with industry and project-specific standards. This position involves working closely with paving crews, plant quality control, and supervisors to maintain high-quality asphalt production and placement. This role is essential in ensuring that asphalt paving operations meet required specifications and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Communicate effectively with asphalt foremen, superintendents, and roller operators to establish compaction patterns and optimize density.
  • Monitor asphalt temperature to verify compliance with mix design requirements.
  • Analyze and calculate asphalt core densities to ensure proper compaction on-site.
  • Correlate asphalt samples with plant quality control to maintain consistency and compliance.
  • Operate Ames profiler to measure and record IRI (International Roughness Index) on asphalt paving, soil cement, and cold-planed surfaces.
  • Identify and layout bumps and rough sections that do not meet project specifications.
  • Ensure all testing and documentation comply with industry regulations and project requirements.

Job Requirements

  • Experience in asphalt paving quality control or materials testing preferred.
  • Knowledge of density testing methods, asphalt mix designs, and IRI profiling.
  • Ability to interpret paving specifications and ensure compliance with project standards.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in using testing equipment and data analysis tools for asphalt quality control.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment while maintaining independence on tasks.
  • Must be reliable and dependable with strong time management skills.

Applicant Requirements

  • Work hours vary based on seasonal workload, with primarily daytime 10-12 hour shifts.
  • Monday through Friday schedule with some Saturday work required.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Must have a valid email address for communication.
